==Regarding this specific video.==

This is just a response to the many times people have asked – why don’t I use my Vive for cockpit games.

The Vive is great, gets a lot of use for the room scale stuff with my kids. They love all that job simulator, robot shooting stuff. But for cockpit stuff, there is just no way I will EVER pickup my Vive again. People that claim to try both and come down on the side of the Vive are just plain wrong, there is no YMMV comment to be made here, I am unapologetic about this fact.

In response to people who get frustrated with me not using the correct technical terminology, congratulations, yours is bigger 😉 I never claimed to be an expert, you expect me to be, big difference. What I am is a VR consumer and fan who is honest and unbiased. If you think I am biased then it is likely because I have a different opinion to you. Don’t be a hypocrite, but true in your comments.

== Who the devil are you Sir? ==
I play with VR on my weekends and schedule video posts through the week. I am not affiliated with any company. At this time I have access to Oculus Rift DK1 & DK2 HMD Technology. As more VR tech is released I will invest my own money in order to continue to review, compare and contrast. I run this for the love of the technology, I am not paid for my opinion, and as a result my opinions will remain unbiased.

  • This was excellent…very informative and I believe it to be honest and sincere also. I can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth of the Vive fanboys out there (unsubscribing as they mutter to themselves). But the truth is after all….the truth. I own a CV1 and I have tried the Vive. What you say UKRifter is pretty much on the button. I wish I had a Vive, I really do. But on balance, for the kind of simulation games I enjoy, I think I made the right choice….for once in my life. No wait twice in my life…I voted REMAIN!

  • Oculus does have asynchronous timewarp and I bet that is why you can drive in rain unjuddered

  • you know, you have vr scale setting. you can make it look bigger or smaller.

  • Glad you were honest .. I ordered the CV1 because I play mostly cockpit games.. I also heard the same things you said here from others.. It will be too bad if you lose subs for being honest.. It will be their loss..

  • Yes, the scale is wrong for me too.
But again, this seems to be a game issue.
I wear glasses for see faraway so now I think maybe I gonna need use glasses with the Rift.
I'm planing selling my Vive when Oculus announce the launch date for the Touch and buy the Rift + Touch controller.

  • own both and the the vive is way better for me, games like this and others. I've not used my oculus for about 2 weeks

  • Well done:) now I have to get the Rift too:) but I keep my vive)

  • The problem is that this game is not build for VR. It was just smacked on to to get money from the VR audience. Wait for a game that is made for vr! BTW elite dangerous, who did the same is good. It works and it is beautiful. Liked it much better than cars. Wait for a true vr racing game.

  • OK We get it. You prefer the Rift. But will you please correct your Techno babble as I thought you had a 290x until you said in the vid that you had a 980ti. :)

  • The reason the textures look flat is because they use normal maps to represent bump detail. This works fine on a traditional monitor but in VR it just doesn't work at all because you have stereoscopic vision which is not fooled by the normal mapping technique. there are techniques such as parallax occlusion mapping or geometry tessellation + height maps that developers could use to counteract this but they are very expensive graphically right now.

  • no 90 fps never in the night or rain. just a 1080 can handle the rain and night i think…

  • Isn't there an in-game scaling option for Project Cars?

I can remember when I played, being able to adjust the scale on the fly, going from a tiny little car attached to my face, right out to a massive car that I felt tiny inside.

  • Absolutely love your honest reviews ! Thanks man. Should have my Rift in a few days

  • Vive's FoV allegedly slightly higher, but you noticed the scale of close objects seemed warped and too small? Could there be a correlation there, like games run on the Vive just inherently have their FoV stretched a few degrees beyond the realistic level to create the illusion that the headset itself has wider FoV, or do the display edges at the corners of your peripheral vision actually seem thinner than in the CV1?

I also wonder if the brighter Vive displays are responsible for it having less "god ray" effect. God rays only really show up in high bright-object-on-dark-background scenes, so if the entire game environment is brighter that means less contrast, right?

  • Awesome to know I made the right choice, even though oculus are douchebags! Great vid mate

  • had DK!1 and DK2 then bought VIVE room scale demos are awesome! but I play mostly Asseto Corsa and Project Cars in VR and I couldn't play those titles smooth on my gtx 980 even on low, so I almost bought 1080 and then HDMI cable fail on VIVE. luckily I've could still return it to Microsoft store. took that money and bought CV1 on Ebay, there is no comparison, everything run smooth on my 980 on max settings sharpness of details especially when everything moves it's much much better. and I still got 200 in my pocket for Oculus touch when they will finally come out :/ only thing I will miss for sure is that genius chaperone system.

  • Thanks for the review – I have a Vive and nearly purchased P Cars but thanks to you I haven't wasted my money , I'm loving The Bookhaven Experience on the Vive :)

  • There is a "Virtual Reality" option menu that allows setting the scale. Its a menu that you can only access DURING a race, not in the Main options. Most of the options in that menu deal with seat postion, but there is completly unlabled bar on top of the menu that can be set from 0.5 to 2.0 – thats the scale.

Using my Rift, the default scale of 1.0 seems reasonable (1.1 seems even better though)
Maybe the Vive just has really, really crappy preset values in PCars?

  • I just found that during the race if you open the menu and go to VR Settings or something like that you can change the scale.
For me 1.3 is the sweet spot for the scale.
It's still not perfect for me but is much better.
You need to be in a race to do that.

  • Thank you UKRifter for more insight about the differences 😀 i subed to you for your opinions about VR.

  • i couldn keep watching this after ukrifter said the scale was off, didnt he knows that you change the scale of this game on the go in the options?, theres is a scale slider god…

  • Honesty and objectivity is what i like. And i find both things here. I tried both HMDs and i share the opinion displayed in this video a 100%.

  • I don't know what the problem is I have used the vive and I love it it's brilliant compared to the rift in most aspects you go in with a negative attitude

  • Strange i have everything except AA on max (and window mode full screen then i got problem with pc) dont have any problem and i use a Fury X card with is AMD/ATI with Project-cars warn about. Did a recording direct from the vive screen if you like to see.

  • do you think the CV1 will replace your vive once the touch controllers come out? (in terms out which one you will play more like you said in the end of the vid)

  • I really like your videos but it's clear that you are rather bias in your comparisons… Every pro that you give the Vive automatically comes with some negative caveat. Even when you mentioned that the headset was more comfortable than you expected, you still threw a jab in that you realize how uncomfortable it is when it's taken off. I get that everyone has an opinion and some of your points i do agree with, but I own both- they both are great and it feels that you are seriously over-over selling the Rift. I hope that no one uses this comparison to make a decision on which to buy.

  • You mentioned a few times about scaling, why dont you just adjust it in the VR options? I have mine set to 110% which matches my arm and leg length

  • Will all the vr games that has to be played with controllers on the vive be available on the oculus rift cv1 when they release there own trailer such as the Star Wars vr game that's on the htc vive ?

  • +UKRifter – Oculus Rift & HTC Vive VR Fun Really? Mainly complaining about scale? Why don't you set the scale to fit your needs? I have my Vive now 2 days but I found the Option for world scaling in the VR menu first time trying PC. I think there is only one point which speaks for the Rift, that's the asynchronous timewarp. I love my Vive and also the option for roomscale games.

  • Why so many dislikes? i dont get it actually…. oh wait is it the facebook thing, he should praise the Vive here right?

  • I can't afford a CV1 right now, but I have a Vive and a DK2 and I'm looking to pick up Project Cars, and the only cockpit game I've played on both so far it Elite Dangerous.  Based on your observation comparing the Vive and CV1 with Project Cars, would it be preferable to dig out my DK2 and use that instead for that game (assuming you've tried a DK2 before), or should the Vive suffice?

  • Do you still have the r9 290x that is says in the description? Cuz I have a CV1 with the xfx r9 290x, i5 6500 and 16gb, but project cars only works decently with the absolute lowest settings possible.. And even then I get about 70 fps tops

  • thks for the comparison.
I m kind of surprise by the outcome with quality game like project car.
Seems it confirm your previous review early on.
