how to make custom motorcycle cable lengths for throttle, clutch and brakes
Here is a short Ichiban Moto “how to” video making up custom cable lengths for motorcycle throttle, brake or clutch cable after you lower the bars or move controls on your café racer, bobber etc. motorcycles. I included how to do home made flux and using pure lead instead of alloy solder. I had moved the throttle on my Yamaha and lowered my bars and needed to shorten the cable.
If you missed the vid where I installed rear sets, here it is: http://youtu.be/K5HqlhtzxZk

Heating the bullet was stupid.
I saw the beginning of this and thought of a great extension of this innovation.
Why couldn't the extra cable just be wrapped around the throttle peddle bolt, this will allow for adjustment as necessary and you would not have to remake a short cable when it needs replacement. I believe the carbonkevlar zip ties will hold the tension enough to prevent unraveling while traveling at warp speed
(P.S. I wrote this after watching 25 seconds of the video)
I love the XS 500 that you have. Here in the uk quite a rare sight
Folks, I don't see the problem with using a loaded round of ammunition. The melting point of the bullet is about 600 degrees F, the primer won't ignite until it reaches at least 350 degrees. The brass case will give off some heat as it travels upwards. Don't know about anyone else but whenever I put something that could explode in front of my face, I always count on sheer luck to keep me safe.
love your show keep it up
Those nifty scissors would remove a finger
You can use this bunch of molten metal to close those ant nests on your garden and make a nice sculpture of it.
hey man i tryed this and the bullet worked awsum 🙂 i used the same tools as u ,,but i have to say the hardest part,,was drilling that little hole with the hand drill lol
I have been using candles for welding & brazing for years, its an old bikers secret, saves money on welding gas.
I can not believe I just saw what I saw @ 3:23 – Really?
YOU USED A LIVE JACKETED AMMO ROUND – IMOAO, YOU'RE FKN STUPID!
DO NOT try this at home kids. If you need lead go to Walmart & get some fishing weights or the local tire repair and ask for an tire balance weight.
Beyond the stupidity of using LIVE ammo and applying heat to it, this is a good How To video.
I tried solder it didn't hold
im mostly curious about those little swiss scissor/pocket knife you use to cut it all.. where did you get those and how is something so small so effective? i have dikes that wont cut that stuff with 2 hands clamped to it!
how to you extend it
Since you have such a bad ass pair of scissors, I'm sure that you also have a pair of pliers. Why don't you just pull the bullet out of the brass case before you melt it? Then you won't have the potential to cause a fire or an explosion by exposing the gun powder/primer to the high heat.
A melted bullet? Now I've seen everything!
How did you melt a bullet with a candle ?
These comments are hysterical! But really, if the primer was to discharge the casing would blow brass shards everywhere.
thank you sir, very resourceful use of materials. I also like the idea of having the old school drill in case of a power outage
stop butchering that poor motorcycle, makes me sad and mad
Best item for a DIY solder pot suitable for this?
Will come handy for all future wiring too.
what an interesting man – atleast 5 times just when i was going to switch off he hits me with a unique way of doing something
I couldn't drill through the end
Bad ass dude ! Also where can I get the lead bullet from ? Do you sell them on line along with the special lead bullet melting contraption? 🤑
Is this how pioneers shortened their throttles? Haha! Admittedly I thought the old school mechanic stuff was awesome.
