I have a cub cadet kohler k301a engine and it will turn over but the spark plug want fire… I changed my solonoid and the condenser but still no spark please help
what makes a coil burn out on a cub1450 hydro its hooked up right but its gone throw 3 coils in the last year
How many ohms should the resistor be to use the automotive coil? Thank you.
will you burn up the coil if the wires are switched? like the battery positive is hooked to the negative on the coil? etc.
Hi Zippo, I am working on a K301 that has been wires going here there and everywhere. I'm wondering if you could do a detailed video showing the correct wiring, including key ignition switch, regulator/rectifier, etc. If possible, I would be grateful!
Thanks Zippo !! this is very helpful !! just have to figure out .. where the points wire is inside the magneto .. 🙂 …
Thanks ..
Gary
I have a farmall Super A with a BAD Coil in the Mag, However, it is a POSITIVE GROUND 6 Volt system. To Bypass the Coil in mag and hook up a External Coil, Do I just Switch the wires you speak of , since it is a Positive ground sytem? Negative Tp Positive, Positive to Negative??
do you think you could in theory add this to a dirtbike with an igniton to control the engine?
A ZIPPO THE POINTS CLOSE TO CHARGE THE COIL,WHEN THE POINTS OPEN,THE INDUCED CURENT IS RELEASED ,THATS WHEN THE SPARK HAPPENS.
would that set up work on a Wisconsin robin wi 390?
thanks for info
hi I am working on a cub cadet 682. I had it running. parked it and now I have no spark while craving it over but as soon as I turn key off it has some spark. any ideas
is it OK/safe to connect positive side of coil directly to the battery?
Somebody cut the wire right at the boot of the coil. How do I replace that?
HOW DO YOU CHARGE THE BATTERY
SORRY FOR THE CAPS BUT I CANT SEE THAT WELL SO I HOPE YOU CAN SEE PAST OLD STEREO TYPE
Thank you ZIPPO!!!!!! This video was a life saver. You should make some play lists. Like wiring and so on. Thank man.
hello zippo , i have a royal gypsy tri hull 1977 with a 140 omc 4 cly, i'm not getting spark out of the coil but it is new and so arent the point's condenser and resistor , do you have any idea's ? you can email me at palmisciano7249@gmail.com ………thank you mike
ME TO I WEAR GLASSES BUT THEY DONT WORK TO WELL…IM TO OLD TO GET THEM FIXED NOW…MY EYES THAT IS…LMCAO…ANYWAY I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS ONE UP…I HAD A HARD TIME FINDING THE OLD TYPE OF COIL HOOK UPS NOW A DAYS ALL THE CARS HAS THOSE STUPID BLOCK COILS OR COILS FOR EACH PLUG WIRE…WHICH COST MORE GO FIGURE..PLUS THEY WEAR OUT FASTER…OLD COILS LAST ALMOST A LIFE TIME OF THE CAR…LMCAO…ANYWAY THANKS…I NEED THIS BEEN LONG TIME SINCE I DONE IT AND MY OLD BRAIN FORGOT HOW TO BUT I CAN REBUILD A 4 BARREL CARB AND A WHOLE OLD STYLE ENGINE…MY LAST REBUILD MOTOR WAS A 472….LATER THEY CAME OUT WITH A 500…IT WAS A GOOD BUILD AND FIRED UP THE FIRST TIME IT TURNED OVER ….IT WAS A BIG CAR AND A BIG ENGINE AND IT WOULD HAUL THE TRASH OUT….LOL…THANKS AGAIN….
y do they get so hot
I see I commented before .. but this could work on an old tractor with a magneto too – couldn't it ? Thanks Zippo! Gary
Do you have a video on where and how and what to hookup a resistor with the coil that does NOT have an internal resistor? thanks Gary
I HAD AN IDEA OF MY QWN TO DO THIS , BUT WASN'T SURE HOW TO DO IT. THANKS A LOT FOR THE INFO. THE PRICE OF AN O.E. COIL IS OVER 100.00 AND I HAVE A MULCHER THAT NEEDS A COIL, BUT NOT ONE FOR THAT PRICE
Excellent information. Thank you!
I did this to a friends b110 that had a bad coil / mag. Works great. So when my b10 started symptoms of losing spark when got, I bought a coil and set it up the same way. I cannot get it to spark. Points are new. I have swapped coil and condenser with ones of a running tractor so I know they're not bad. Yes I have 12 volts to the coil when the switch is on.
have a question that maybe somebody can answer…bought a old honda cb twin as a winter fixer upper with two 6 volt ignition coils…one is not working right anymore…now my question would be, can i use those universal 6 volt ignition coils for motorcycles you can find all over the internet for example:( http://www.ebay.de/itm/like/150981600702?lpid=106&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true ) or must i stick to those crazy exspensive honda coils…i live in germany and honda coils for old bikes are hard to get and good ones cost over 150euro, where as those universal 6 volt coils cost 15-25euro….it would be very nice if somebody has any info or expierence they could share with me…bin trying to find infos about it online for days now but just cant find any useful infos about the subject!love and peace
I have a question ? Can I use a 12 volt Delco coil from a automobile, on my case 222 tractor, and does it need a internal resistor in the coil
Hello, Thank you for the video! I have a 4.5cm21-RV generator. I has a nice old Kohler engine on it. The unit has been in storage for years. No gas in it, in fact no tank as I believe the RV fuel tank was used. This unit has a start/stop switch. For the moment I by passed that to get the engine to turn over. I then disconnected the switch and checked for spark. There is none. I set up a temporary fuel bottle to gravity feed the unit for the moment. Question: no spark from coil so it this points? condensor? both? I know it could be the coil however I would like to rule out the others first. I am going to have a problem getting parts because the unit is not marked with model, and the plate has been painted over obscuring the serial number….grrrrr. Thoughts?
Thanks alot, David.
I've got a simplicity 7116 with a Briggs 16hp cast iron engine that I'm gonna do this to as it has magneto woes just wondering what the advantage of mounting the condenser up on the coil versus on the points themselves?…..thanks
sir do i still need a condenser if my bike is on cdi ?
could i use the nova ll chip instead of points

Hey zippo good morning, looking to install a battery on a Peugeot 103 moped to run lights if you can tell me how it's done I'd be a happy guy thanks and keep the videos coming
Thank you very much sir, I appreciate the effort took your suggestion and had no luck so far stay well
it is ok that i put the condenser to the positive terminal of the coil?
Hey there! now i have the same setup like that i have a cub cadet 1250 with the Kohler K301, same igniton coil and everything, what i dont get, is i checked for spark one time when it dident wanna fire. the spark plug is brand new, but when i turn the key, it would spark for about 2 or 3 seconds then it wouldent do it again unless i let it sit, i never seen this before haha! Note: it is cold on so i dont know if that has anything to do with it. Thanks.
Steve.
thanks ur the best
hey Zip… Well, I managed to break the key off inside the ignition on my 1974 vw super beetle. It's in a Walmart parking lot. My concern is the info that says the key must be in place to be able to remove the ignition system…so I am currently lost and confused. I would be happy to bypass the ignition and hot wire the whole mess to a toggle switch like they do on COPS,but I just don't know any good car thieves anymore. I cant even drag it to a mechanic…Can you HELP ME???
I installed the following on my 1969 corvette 427
msd distributor 8572
msd module 6AL
I turn the car on, everything is great but there are sparks on the coil. at the top. ( the coil is a brand new stock coil ) i just ordered the msd blaster 2 coil.. hopefully that will eliminate my problem. any opinions or tips ?
thanks, i might try that on my wisconsin..no spark, points frozen, i cleaned it up ,still nothing..a bat.& ext. coil is awsome idea
Hello there perfect explanation! I'm wondering if you can help out with my problem is have a old lincoln welder that have the kohler motor on it but I'm thinking that my magneto it's bad, but it's the one on the flywheel I'm wondering if I can just swap it with one like yours!!!thanks in advance
maybe a dumb question but if I were to do this to a 2 cylinder outboard no alternator, ( 2 coils obviously) would it drain the battery quickly having to run the coils?
Hi Zip, Maybe a dumb question, but what is the condenser used for on that case.
Thank you buddy, I appreciate your time and kindness!
how to connecr the cable is between positive an negative
Ok Zippo, I am on hour 10 trying to get a spark on my Simplicity 7016. I put on a magnatron only to find my flywheel is polarized different (i am not surprised as it felt out of time), when I couldn't get a spark with the magnatron i pulled the engine and put an old coil and points and condenser back on…. no spark. Wired up an external coil from NAPA. The only thing I did different from your video was to leave the condenser with the points and wired to the coil. My thought now is I must be grounding out some where. Any suggestions.
MISFIRE, I found this article http://www.nonlintec.com/sprite/cap_failure/, describes the poor manufacturing quality of condensers leading to arcing, they recommend a better capacitor -condenser, but I re-read it, gave it some thought, then I put a 2nd condenser on the coil -ve post to ground, reason – the chance both condensers arcing at the same moment would be remote, and also the non-arc condenser electrically kills the arc of the other, my long time misfire problem in L20b Nissan engine is cured, so – please consider – on any engine with points and condenser, replace 1 old condenser with 2 new for great results
I need help i have. OnAn it have. Two condensers and. One coil with two.plug cable how. Conect the condensers
