New 2018 Triumph Bonneville Bobber Black Shows Off The Bobber’s Bad Side

Triumph was surprised with how well the Bonneville Bobber was received: “It was the fastest-selling motorcycle [as measured by first 30-day registrations] in Triumph’s 115-year history,” Triumph Head of Brand Management Miles Perkins explained. The bike went on to be one of the best-selling models for the English company in the US, finding more than 1,000 customers before selling out, far exceeding expectations.

The company had already planned a supplemental model, but the strong sales put a little more emphasis on getting it out and getting it right. The idea was to make it darker, meaner, stronger, more aggressive and muscular, and the changes, while not extensive, do give it a distinctly different character than the original Bobber. That 2018 motorcycle, the Bonneville Bobber Black, made its public debut today.
Functional changes are concentrated at the front of the machine: Instead of the 19-inch front tire of the original Bobber, the Bobber Black gets a fat, 130/90-16 Avon tire, still on a wire-spoked wheel but now carried by a stouter, 47mm Showa cartridge fork rather than a 41mm KYB. Instead of a single disc, the Black employs two 310mm discs gripped by Brembo two-piston sliding calipers. The switchgear has a single button that activates new electronic cruise control.
The look is denser, lower, and chunkier than with the standard Bobber. In the EU and some other markets, the Black gets an all-LED headlight, but one that doesn’t comply with US regulations and will not be offered here; instead the US model is fitted with the same halogen bulb with daytime running light (DRL) as used in the regular Bobber.
Like other Triumphs, the Black comes with an ABS braking system, and the complexity of that means the new dual-disc system is not retrofittable to a Bobber without a complete brake system transplant, something that’s simply not economic. Perkins suggests trading up if you must have the brakes. Just like the Bobber, the Black retains the 1200cc, six-speed Bonneville T120 engine, still tuned for extra torque via the Bobber intake and exhaust.

2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster

The 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster features a heavily revised and liquid-cooled parallel twin, fresh technology, a new chassis and more classic styling.

The 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster is a fraternal twin of the Bonneville Bobber that debuted for 2017. It gets the same High Torque version of the liquid-cooled, 1,200cc parallel twin with a 270-degree firing interval, aggressive tuning and raw exhaust note, and they share the distinctive “cage” swingarm that gives both bikes an old-school hardtail look.

Like all of the new Bonnevilles, the Speedmaster blends state-of-the-art technology and components, including throttle-by-wire, riding modes (Road and Rain), switchable traction control, cruise control, assist-and-slipper clutch, ABS and Brembo front brakes, with traditional styling. It’s a laidback cruiser with pullback handlebars, slightly forward-mounted pegs and 16-inch spoked wheels shod with chunky Avon Cobra tires. From the silencers to the engine and tank badges, the Speedmaster has a mix of chrome and brushed finishes that impart a custom sensibility to the bike. The passenger seat and chrome grab rail are easily removable for a solo look, and the rider’s seat height is a low 27.7 inches.

The engine, which has a 6-speed transmission and chain final drive, is held within a tubular steel twin cradle frame. KYB suspension includes a non-adjustable cartridge fork and a preload-adjustable rear shock. Dual 310mm front discs are squeezed by 2-piston Brembo calipers and a single 255mm rear disc is squeezed by a 1-piston Nissin caliper, and ABS is standard equipment.

A full line of accessories will be available, including “inspiration kits” such as Highway (windshield, luggage, comfort seat, passenger backrest, luggage rack and highway bars) and Maverick (blacked-out components, brown quilted solo seat, Vance & Hines exhaust).

The 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster will be available in Jet Black, Cranberry Red and two-tone Fusion White and Phantom Black with twin coach lines. Pricing and availability are TBD.

All New 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster, The Perfect Cruiser

Triumph Motorcycles today showcased its latest generation Speedmaster. The 2018 Triumph Speedmaster is the newest addition to the current generation Bonneville family and is positioned as a more laidback cruiser/tourer. The target customer for the Speedmaster is someone who likes the classic design of the Bonneville T100/T120 but wants a more comfortable stance and touring ability. Interestingly, Triumph says the Speedmaster also boasts the same attitude as a Bobber with its classic twin-cylinder sound and torquey feel. In terms of competition, the Speedmaster is expected to take on the likes of the Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom and Indian Scout.

Triumph Boneville DIY universal forward controls – ep 33 p1 – Roma Custom Bike

In this episode we’ll install some homemade DIY forward controls on a TRIUMPH Bonneville.

Starting form a universal forward controls kit, Custom Cez and Polsky Rage will create a metal structure from scratch to support the controls in the new location and replace the central positioning of this Triumph model.

PART 1 – Building the structure and the forwarding of the brake side:
The guys start with building the metal structure that will be bolted to the TRIUMPH Bonneville frame using some 18 millimeters in diameter cold rolled steel stock and some 8 millimeters thick steel plates.
While for the shift the transfer of motion is taken care of by a piece of metal rod, for the brake side Custom Cez and Polsky Rage decide to move the all assembly to the new position: the lever, the pump and the reservoir.

What did we do:
– Adaptation of the universal forward controls
– Fabrication of the holding structure
– Welding of all the parts
– Relocation of the brake lever, pump and reservoir

PART 2 – Forwarding of the shift lever, details and brake bleeding:
(coming soon)
If you are interested in the powdercoating videa mentioned at 3:20 here is the playlist:

In part 2 of the installation and adaptation of a universal forward control kit on a TRIUMPH Bonneville the guys take care of the gear shift lever and the transfer of motion from the new location to the gear box. Custom Cez powder coats all the fabricated parts using the powders from www.verniceapolvere.it
The electrical system also needs to be modified to accommodate for the new custom forward controls and once everything is nice and tight Custom Cez shows how to bleed the braked to obtain a tight and efficient brake action.

Made in Rome, Italy we take a look at an European approach to modifying and customizing an Harley Davidson with Custom Cez, an amateur customizer in his home shop.
