Starting my 1949 Matchless G80S
First run of the season on a lovely spring day in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The old girl starts up on the first kick!
My bike is a 1949 Matchless G80S, with a cast iron single cylinder 500cc engine and Lucas electrics. Handmade at the AMC factory in Plumstead, London just after the war. This was the first model ever made with rear suspension — cutting edge at the time!
Matchless/AJS stopped production less than 20 years later and these days the brand is rarely found in the States.
