I'm one in some 30000 but I like the mix of content you have; I've learned a lot and I appreciate the chance to be a tourist as well.
2014 John?
gah dont show the vintage bikes, makes me miss my bantam and autocycle i restored from junk parts and the evil rust gremlins.
Nice repair John. Makes you feel your age when you see bikes that you used to blast round on at a vintage rally! Count me in for a T Shirt, I want you to walk away with the 4 Jaw belt next year, go and show them how it's done on this side of the water buddy! Jon.
Nice repair on the pulley. Thanks for another enjoyable weekend of SNNC.
More motorcycles please.
Any chance of a change from the blue danube?
nice job again wee all get cuts on the job its part of the job we all love so much .
Nice work as allways. Another good sunday…
I really enjoyed this video!
Top video John keep them coming just like that please. If you have time can you answer this question: When cutting the keyway by hand, how much do you advance the cut on each pass? You probably might be doing it by feel.. but a rough guess?
Many thanks J
nice job
I had to laugh when the nut on the generator fell between the ways of your lathe and into the chip tray. Every once in a while Murphy's Law visits every man's shop
So how does Deb like you flinging your sand around the yard? lol
Great video as usual John!
Also, at the end…"Twastard Engineering 2014"
A true twastard!!
I got a bit confused by the 2014. For a minute I thought maybe I was in the twilight zone.
Ah Blue Danube day. Must be Sunday. Very nice, classic rebore a pulley, bush it, cut a keyway. Cutting keyway on a lathe is very slow, but it works, I've tried it. On the other hand Claudio Grassi has cut entiire gear sets by broaching on the lathe. See his channel. More than one way to skin the cat. As always, best to Debs and your Dad.
John,
Really nice work on the pulley for the generator (dynamo). I love looking at those older motorcycles. They take me back to fond memories of me in my late teen-early 20s when I had and rode a variety of bikes. Too bad I can't wind the clock back 50 years and relive that time! Thanks for another great SNNC! As always, good wishes to Debs and your Dad.
Have a good one!
Dave
youtube has loads of tracks you can use http://nofilmschool.com/2015/08/youtube-audio-library-adds-1000-royalty-free-song-music-track
Great content and very entertaining as normal John top job
your a very clever bloke john. Keep up the great work.
Ah, at about 4:00 I see that it's a cap screw in the tail of the center that is doing the wobbling. Still It will affect the other end a bit.
I keep hoping to see an old Norton International 30 like the one I foolishly sold many years ago. Easily recognizable by the exposed hairpin valve springs.
And all best to Debs ad your dad.
Would that not be easier with a boring bar and a bit of square tool steel in it ground to the correct size? It looks like the tool is catching on the bore diameter there from the video John.Might just be my dodgy eyes though! Keep up the good work.
the shank of your keyway cutter caught the bore a bit didn't it?
The technique with the 4 jaw and the centre is a good one, but I suggest you use a dead centre, rather than a live one, for more accurate results. Watch your vid back and you will see noticeable runout at the tail-stock end. Also you broaching tool also seemed to cut a shoulder – I thought we were heading for a Bell-end moment, but nothing. 🙁
could you show us a close up of the key way cutter john?
Great job as always John. Looking forward to more of your casting work in bronze. If ya can, show and tell us a little about your setup, such as the furnace and sand your using. Looks like Petrobond. Do you mull it too or one time use the stuff?
I'm sick of seeing harleys here in the states…. I enjoy seeing the old BSAs, Triumphs, Nortons, bmws, too cool!
did you domino those bikes and shout BASTAD
DJohn, all jobs need to be baptized in blood. At least that's what I tell myself all the time..
Glad to hear Deb is doing well and had a good holiday.
love the old bikes at the end we don't get to see to many of those Brit bikes here in the states
Nice video bastard.
well explained, the Cracks was good.
Love seeing the old bikes , my all time favorite is the 500 Gold Star BSA !
I did the same project today but on 4 step pulley for one on my lathes
