Indian Motorcycle: Honoring Our Past, Powering Our Future – The Thunder Stroke 111™
Introducing The Thunder Stroke 111™. With past Indian Motorcycle achievements as our inspiration, we set out to build the best power plant on the road today. A lofty goal, but a fitting one for the company that introduced the first production V-Twin engine over one hundred years ago in 1906.
The Thunder Stroke 111™ is true to its heritage and looks, as well as power. Producing over 115 foot pounds of torque, it delivers smooth, reliable and abundant power, mile after mile, no matter where you choose to ride.
Choice is Coming to American Motorcycles.

They portray it as if "Indian" has been in production since 1901 . . . Seriously? I appreciate the latest rehash of the name and hope it succeeds but let us get real. I pray Polaris keeps the percentage of parts made in the USA high, similarly to the Kings Mountain Indians as opposed to outsourcing crap from communist China only to keep the price down.

Ever or just for the next year or two?
Indian didn't produce the first motorcycle v-twin. Nice collection of earlier bikes on this website:

First production v twin? – not even close
Indian might have been in continuous production had HD not ignored the 550cc limit when they both bid on a lucrative WW2 contract in the 1940's. Indian came in with a 550cc, HD a 750cc – Harley won the lions share of the contract. Harley has a history of douchebaggery, just look at their "Riders Edge" program which basically lets riders pick out a leather jacket, sit on a new bike in the showroom, and presto you have a motorcycle license. I'm sure a $20K bike sale doesn't trump traffic safety.
This is a beautiful looking engine and given it's built by the company that build VICTORY bikes, it's likely to be reliable.
He brings up a good point though. It would be smart to make the engine available in the near future.
Indian has two primary markets:
Folks who want super cool gorgeous bikes with retro styling, shiny and ready to ride, even with a high end cost. And folks that tinker with old bikes, who would love to get their hands on whatever parts, engines, frames, details, etc, that they need to bring their oily old garage babies back to life. Even the mixed up frankenstein bikes. Cater to your markets, and you will thrive as a company. Listen carefully, Indian. This is an important message.
i wish it wasnt a unit construction. find me one of those motors without the trans and build a bike around possibly using another indian trans. sandblast all the chrome off the aluminum parts, let them get nice and dull and old looking.
for all the people who dont believe the 1901 The "Indian Motocycle Co." was originally founded as the Hendee Manufacturing Company by George M. Hendee in 1897 to manufacture bicycles. These were initially badged as "Silver King" and "Silver Queen" brands but the name "American Indian", very quickly reduced to simply "Indian", was adopted by Hendee from 1898 onwards because it gave better product recognition in export markets.
Indian Motorcycles for ever
Why did you guys not put a liquid cooling system on this engine? Even Harley is rumored to finally go to liquid cooling in 2016, which the Jap bikes have had for years, now.
why are v-twin cruisers the only market american manufacturers are interested in? with all the crap H-D, victory, gilroy indian, and the "custom" builders have been turning out over the years you would think it was time for a different direction in american motorcycling.
1. Because V-twins are what sells.
2. Because V-twins make more bottom end torque than inline engines.
3. V-twins have fewer parts to fail
4. V-twins sound better than winey inlines, V4's and sixes
5. V-twins look better naked and require less cosmetic cover up (cheesey fairings and panels) since they fill the frame.
6. V-twins distribute drive train weight more equally than inlines.
7. V-twins are the signature powerplant of American bikes like V8's are for muscle cars and hot rods.
1. Indians never had radiators
2. More components to fail.
3. Rads look like crap on bikes
4. HD going entirely to water cooled has been a rumor for decades, only the V-rod has come out of it, and I expect they'll see a lot of resistance from loyal HD owners.
Pretty cool animation
