Indian motor cycle

Don’t see any of these anymore. They were very popular before WWII and the military used them during the war.
The Highway Patrol used them also. However they were difficult to ride/drive as they had a real gearshift on the right side and could be dangerous. They had a top speed of around 95 miles per hour, but could do it all day long. (note the gear shift arm to the right of the gas tank)
A company in California attempted to bring them back about 10 years ago (2000) but didn’t make it.
The first motorcycle I recall seeing was an Indian, it had just won a race in Goshen Park in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. The rider was from some place called ‘California" His bike was all white. That must have been about 1948. What was amazing was he took a few minutes to chat with a four year old who was agog with admiration!
