That's a fantastic sound and a great story about a great man.
Kiwis CAN fly!
…to the Gods of speed, we hope your looking after our mate Burt
MADE IN NEW ZEALAND BABY !
Indians were made in New Zealand?
This one was, not much original Indian left. And it was crafted and developed not made.Vale Burt,I think you must be the newest 'God of Speed'
Who ever did this has ruined the patina and flare that is the Munro Special.
I'm very sad that this has been done cause some of the stuff on the motorcycle may not have been safe or done 100% correct but I think an original motorcycle like this would be much better kept to the way it was intended than to restore it and make it "PERFECT".
Regards,
Pete.
i am from new zealand and i dont think the usa should have this it should reside in nz with bert munro as for the rebuild it is no longer berts motor cycle that he spent his life building in my view the rebuild has ruined it
Sound good..
can you explain what happened?
It's a shame it's been restored!
Boo-hoo
if you watch the movie you can see he was a very well known man you potato..
I really dig unrestored machinery but, if this bike was in bad shape I can understand why it was restored. Anyway, it doesn't matter, its a museum piece now days with a wonderful history.
burt munro made 3 of these bikes.. this one was rebuilt using parts from another
Exactly!…Boo effing Hoo!!!
I thought that the original was in Invercargill?
There were several. Two of them are in the hardware store in Burt's hometown in NZ. So relax.
yep I agree well said
THAT IS NOT BURTS INDIAN THE REAL ORIGINAL LIVES IN INVERCARGILL
THTS IN THE SOUTH ISLAND OF NEW ZEALAND WHERE HE MADE IT ALONG WITH A SELECTION OF OTHER BIKES IN A HARDWARE STORE ANOTHER IS A VELLOCETTE WHICH BURT DONE 138 MPH
IN THE STATES SALT FLATS
Don't know who sung the song (other than Freddy Mercury) but " Oh yes, I'm the great pretender "
That was beautiful! Listen to that engine! Where is his bike now?
I want to steal it
What a great video burt would be proud to see his bike in such great shape and restored .Im a very proud kiwi and so was burt all bullshit aside he set records and his name will live on i think he would be very proud too see his bike being fired up. cher bro
+94concours No they weren't, but the famous Burt Munroe modified that bike in New Zealand in a shed. We was a legend, using gate hinges and all sorts of junk! Broke records on a shoestring budget. Like John Britton, but more basic. Records set on a 1920's bike. Not bad huh?
"Because Munro was a man of modest means, he would often make parts and tools himself instead of having them professionally built. For example, he would cast parts in old tins, make his own barrels, pistons, flywheels, etc. His micrometer (a precision measuring instrument) was an old spoke."
As I understand it, there were two streamliners after the early sixties – Munro shipped it out to Bonneville and then took the engine back and forth to NZ to work on it. Therefore, there was a rolling chassis in the US and the remainder of Munro's stuff in NZ, which he sold to Hayes when he became ill. Both are genuine, but maybe the NZ bike is more genuine….
Is this the real Munro's Bike or the replica from the movie?
Over restored ? sure it is but that's what they do over there, restore everything to within an inch of its life whether it needs it or not ! Colour doesn't look right, too bright. Still, lucky it was preserved & never ended up in a dumpster.
It shouldn't have been restored. Leave it the way Bert left it! Bert couldn't afford a paint job like that! He lived on a shoe string budget!!
restoring this bike was like restoring a priceless art piece.. its like saying the artist wasnt good enough..
I think people would have liked to have seen the real original for what it was,
Bert resurrected the Indian brand itself, humble genius with guts and tenacity, I hope some of the PR $ from the USA make it back to any family he still has in NZ. Tony Britten was another unsung hero with vision and guts, died way to young but the bikes he built would be worth a A$ million each now.
STUPID ASSES THAT WOULD PAY MONEY FOR THIS GO CART
GIVE ME A BREAK
the bike Burt broke the record in isnt this one, this one has an open nose piece (cooling?) the one he broke the record on has the closed "bullet" nose
Again not the original, its amazing to me, the USA will do anything to make a buck, which includes making copies of famous bikes & CARS especially if they are famous in the first place, like MAD MAX'S first CAR which is in Planet Hollywood's Wall the same with Max Max 2 car as well, so the People of the USA just cant get enough of Australian film history & will pay anything to get it, including trying to copy the Fastest Indian, which is in NEW ZEALAND & not in the USA ? Also who owns Planets Hollywood stores, some of the biggest movie stars.
If thats the real thing, then take it to Bonneville & test it, it should do over 200 miles per hour with ease. I bet my life on the fact its not the real bike that has the current world records for a bike under 1,000cc & doing over 200 miles per hour full stop. 🙂 Just like so many Items that come up for auction at Barrett & Jackson, to think how much the original bike would sell for ?
thats the Ducati powered replica its not the original, obviously it has an electric starter lol
Doe's anyone think they would have the courage to ride this bike at the speeds of Burt Munro… Balls of steel driving by passion that is hardly ever heard of. An absolute legend and inspirational man. To be able to transform his bike into a rocketship with his own hands, trail and error. It's hard comprehend how fast he was able to made his bike. 🍻🍺
