1968 Norton P11 Motorcycle, Started After Sitting Around Since 1998

This bike was restored in 1998, 30 years after it was made. I sold it to my Navy buddy in Alton, Illinois, where It sat around for another 13 years in his living room, used as a work of art. I bought it back from Ron in 2011 where it was stored in my man-cave for another 2 years. l finally got around to cleaning the petrol tank, changed the oil (crankcase, chain case and transmission), cleaned corrosion off the electrical terminals, etc. I put two new Lucas coils on it and a new battery. It started on the 3rd kick. I did not know if my 66 year old knees could start it, but I am very pleased, as is Ron.

I bought my first Norton P11 in 1967 while stationed in Key West, Florida. It had the high pipes. Ron bought a Triumph motorcycle, but later bout a P-11 of his own several years later. After Vietnam I raced my ’67 P-11 in Southern California in AMA flat track and TT racing from 1969-1972.

We both owned this particular rare and beautiful bike. Less than 1500 were made in 1967-1968 and are hard to find in this condition.

The blue smoke from the exhaust comes from sitting around, but it does clean up when riding. It has the original British made Dunlop K70 tires. Now that it is running it may get new skins to be safer on the street, as the original tires are very hard.

My dog, Deacon wants to ride this bike, but I don’t want his paws to scratch the candy-apple red tank.

Note: I decided to sell to get room in my garage. I replaced the tyres with new Dunlop K70’s. I am in the process of sending the Speedo in to get rebuilt, and it needs new rear shocks. It has a slight oil leak, that I think is coming from the countershaft seal. Its time to say goodbye. so it was sold to Dave who picked it uo May 28, 2016.
