Royal Enfield in Dawn Patrol Memorial Day Motorcycle Ride 2011 New Jersey, USA

Dawn Patrol Motorcycle Club is perhaps the oldest motorcycle club in New Jersey, USA. It was established in 1937. It has been organising Memorial Day rides for many years. Motorcycle riders come from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York to participate in their rides. The event is very well organised. The 60 mile route is kept secret. Its map is given only when you reach the starting point. The route is changed every year. To assist the riders, the roads are marked with white lime dots so one can complete the whole ride without looking at the map. The riders leave in small groups which is great. After the ride, there is a picnic and food !

My Royal Enfield EFI G5 was the only RE amongst 300 to 400 motorcycles that participated in the rally. Several people were pleasantly surprised and happy to see a RE. They came over to look at it and talk. I saw one more British bike – a Triumph. Mostly there were Harleys, with some Hondas and a few Yamahas and one or two trikes. Saw one scooter, too.

The weather was sunny and really nice on the day of the ride, May 29, 2011. The fields of New Jersey – the Garden State – were lush green due to many rainy days. Most of the ride was on country roads passing by farms.
