He will always be a Cub to me.
Less count of pitching is better than faster balls
I was beyond spoiled to watch every start as a kid (THANK YOU TBS & WGN). I'm die hard Tigers fan, but this guy was the player I'd pay to see.
Well when you see the range of motion comparisons of Mad Dogs' non-throwing elbow against his throwing arm elbow joints range of motion motion get back to me…I have the MLB results from 2005 A.D.
GPOAT
this guy had nasty stuff seriously
what pitch was that at 1:00?
GOAT pitcher
Guy was a surgeon of the strike zone. haven't seen anything like it since.
Arnolds Chapman my hairy ass give me a guy half as good with command as Maddox and I won't have to worry about paying him millions as he rehabs Tommy john.
15 balls out of 74 pitches…… you can't do that in Xbox
C. C cc qqqq.
Not like he didn't know that stadium and that mound given who he came up with!
Maddux is the greatest finesse pitcher of all time. No overpowering speed, just pure control and command. Watching him was like watching an artist on the mound, truly honored to have grown up in Georgia and as a Braves fan.
People seem to overlook his defense. They forget (or don't realize) he was an 18-time Gold Glove winner (EIGHTEEN!).
"What's a ball?"
-Greg Maddux
WOW!
LIAR!!! skip said it was 78 pitches.
THE FINAL SCORE WAS 4-1 NOT 3-2….GOOD JOB MLB
What do you mean we saw a great pitching performance? We saw only a dozen highlight pitches.
15-ball complete game. that's like 1.5 balls per inning, everything else strikes. that's insane.
So you want to prepare for a pitcher like Maddux?…Practice hitting 80mph wiffle balls.
I've seen a few pitchers who were so dominant you couldn't do what you wanted at the plate, but I've never seen one who made you do what he wanted like Maddux. He decided what part of the bat he'd LET you hit the ball with and which fielder you'd hit it to. Rediculous!
Some of these are fucking disgusting
Maddux was great, but the 97 Cubs started 0-14. It was one of the worst teams I've ever seen.
i bet a 4 team parlay once… if i won all 4 id win 4 thousand… i won 3 games & maddux start was rained out… i won but not 4k
i love maddux
How did I know from the title Eric Gregg was the umpire?
my 3 pitchers greg maddux nolan ryan phil niekro..
Filthy Greg Maddux
And of those balls he threw? I'd bet three-quarters of them were intentional to get a chase. That dude was inhuman.
His ball breaks like crazy
Took my grandmother to see him pitch for the Braves against the Reds once. She and I were Braves fans as well as Reds supporters as we live in the Reds region of support (gulp, Eastern Kentucky, lol). We walked out to right field to watch him warm up with catcher Greg Olson, I think, but can't be certain, it's been so long ago. His control was phenomenal. She's gone now, but was thrilled to get to see a Major League game. We had a great time, wonderful memories. He was a once in a lifetime type talent. This is unrelated, but several years before I was in Cincinnati and Jose Rijo was stretching and warming up before a start, and he really impressed my family and me with the strength of his arm. He stood in right field and tossed with a Reds outfielder, and he effortlessly threw from deep right to about halfway between home and first, just an easy arm motion but that ball came out of his hand with some heat on it and was a line shot to the guys glove, nearly every single throw. Tremendous athlete.
I always tried emulating Maddux's pitching style growing up. I would practice in my backyard and never got it down. When I actually played baseball, I was at 1st base. Never got to be a pitcher.
at least with that dad bod you definitely knew Greggy wasnt juicing…..what an absolute phenomenal pitcher.
best PITCHER and i do mean pitcher I have ever seen
Who on Earth would think their is another pitcher better than Maddux
ball dives and bounces on the plate
Commentator- Maddux changed up a little bit…
I remember as a young Astros fan thinking Greg Maddux was a baseball god. He would put Bagwell away like he was pitching to a middle schooler
I remember as a 9 year old recording him on VHS tapes because of his pitching mechanics and then going to the park throwing at a orange cone
He was a great pitcher, but it should be stated that the strike zone in those days was ridiculous, especially for guys like Greg, Glavine, Pedro, Johnson, etc. Umps were routinely giving them strike calls on pitches that were easily 5-6 inches inside or out.
0:21… i think Mark Grace did steroids.
The best two-seam fastball in baseball history.
This is one MLB record that will never be broken
His Strikes looked like Balls, and Balls looked like strikes.
Greg Maddux was my favorite pitcher to watch when I was a kid.
